Arcata, California
Humboldt Bay is located in Humboldt County, California, about 280 miles north of San Francisco. It is full of wildlife and activity, which has not always been the case. In the Bay there is no major fresh water source; the flushing of nutrients is dependent on tidal rise and fall. The Bay is divided into three sub bays: South Bay, Entrance Bay, and the North Bay, otherwise known as Arcata Bay [1].

Arcata Bay was was originally inhabited by the Wiyot people who lived off the land and it’s resources for thousands of years before it was settled by Europeans. The Wiyots were forced to leave their land and move out of the Bay [1]. In 2010, Arcata was home to about 17,200 residents [2].
The Restoration Project
